Post Stampede Modding...... Someone mentioned Torque?  Reply with quote
So i picked up another Stampede off ebay yesterday for 25. (There is another availible if someone wants to grab it! I added it to bargain hunting!) As a result, my fear of bricking my only stampede has been quashed and i am ready to get stuck in to my first stampede mod.

Now, i can do AR removal, seal improvements, volt mods etc, etc. And there are plenty of mod guides around to help. However, one of the Veterans here (Boff or Oldnoob possibly) mentioned torque which i have no clue about.

I guess my question is: What size, shape and colour torque do i need to buy?

Kidding! I'm not that stupid. My real question is: What do i need to do wiring-wise to adjust torque to avoid problems when upgrading the spring?

Also, suggestions on plunger padding for both Stampedes and Longshots and where to get them in the uk would be helpful. I spent a lot of time looking in B+Q yesterday before i realised i really had no clue what i was looking for!!

Thanks in advance.

I am very lazy, I would just buy the complete BSUK wiring kit, works and comes with the spring. Any round self adhesive furniture pad that is made of rubber or thicker foam padding will work as plunger padding. Power supply for Stampedes is basically any pack if you want to save money. I wouldn't personally go over 9.9v/6kg spring as I like my gearbox to keep it's teeth. I have only done two Stampedes though, Boff and CarrierII are the stampede kings.

Do you want me to put a Stampede wiring kit in the post for you? Razz It contains everything you need, including the 18AWG wire and everything.

Cheers for the quick reply guys. Looks like good advice.

Boff whats the damage? I have spent over 3 times my Nerf budget this month already. Part of me is trying to be a responsible parent/husband/house owner/bill payer/supermarket shopper. The other half is just says 'Ahhhh, Screw it!'.

When you say the kit includes everything, does that include batteries?

It doesn't normally include batteries but because I like you, I can do the whole shebang including 1800mAh battery for 25 inc VAT. You'll need to get a B6 charger or similar, however. Not sure if you've got one of those or not but then they're an investment for life. Smile

That pretty much sums up every transaction between me and BSUK!

Tell her the pack will pay for itself within a month, unlike the children.....

Charger is here, cheap and does the job

It will be with you shortly. Quick question though, i already bought a Stampede spring from you ready for this mod, so i will not need one in the kit. Can this be deducted or have you already taken it into account?

Be careful I think me Boff and CarrierII have severe addiction issues to Stampedes.... I have one sitting on my wall and another with UKNW.... A never ending ebay hunt for cheap ones ensues.

If you want to see one with the full BSUK kit installed then I may cobble up a video. That or Boff has my explicit permission to show off the secret Stampede he's getting from me.

and Boff - Stop appealing to my magpie like love of the Shiny!

I got one to mod and I'm sitting on my boxed one for now. Who knows what I'll do with it.

Hahaha my first stampede lasted about 10 minutes in the box. I bought it when they came out (at full price, I couldn't wait).

Hi all, I suppose this is actually my first post! I saw this topic and I thought it may be a great point to jump in. I'm modding a stampede at the moment, I've fitted an OMW 6kg spring and I've removed the AR valve. I plan to add more voltage but I thought I'd try it out as is to see what the spring can do, unfortunately all it does is push the breach forward then stops, like it can't pull any further. I popped the original spring back in and it worked perfectly. I have added a washing machine rubber hose seal to the plunger for padding so I don't know if that has anything to do with it? Any help appreciated Wink

Welcome to the forums (although this is probably best in it's own topic really)! Very Happy

Padding on the front of the plunger shouldn't be an issue. Either the spring can't physically compress fully for some reason (unlikely if it's an OMW Stampede specific spring unless something is misaligned) or, more likely, the motor doesn't have enough power to compress the spring. If you're running it at stock voltage with standard alkaline batteries with the stock restrictive wiring loom, the second option is probably the problem.

Sounds to me like the stock batteries don't have the juice to prime the spring.
