Been a while but my 2 boys decided 2017 was going to be the year they learn to spray things and what better to start on than the extensive Nerf Armoury. This is Ollies first attempt (with a little help from Dad). Struggled a bit with the rattle cans as he his only 10 but had a hand in all parts of the process. Got the 13 year olds to finish with him then goodness knows what.

My first commission, I guess. It was given free to a friend of mine by the uni accommodation's cleaners - it had been left behind by a student the previous year - and it was completely useless, it barely fired 5 metres even on fresh batteries, and made a horrible noise. I took it apart and found that the insulation on some of the wiring around the flywheel motors was burnt through - it looked like it had been caught with a soldering iron in the factory or something. Obviously time to do something about it, so I stripped everything out and replaced it with a 18 gauge live centre w/rev interlock circuit, using the stock switches but doubling up the rev switch which should make it last a bit better. I'd be very surprised if the switches burned out before the motors anyway. The whole thing is wired to a 7.2V 3500mAH battery I had lying around, which in my Stryfe lasts for a good few widegames before needing charging, and that's fitted into the stock battery tray using the nasty but in this case perfectly adequate Tamiya connector.

it originally wasn't going to be painted, but a small incident with a soldering iron meant that part of the back end needed reconstructing with filler (spot the repair) - so as I was helping my friend paint their Sweet Revenge anyway, out came the spray can, and while I was at it off came all the logos, branding and digital camo. The body colour is Plasticote spray - not very nice stuff, the Humbrol sprays give a nicer finish with a much thinner layer - with Hobbycraft black brush paint and a few details picked out in Galleria silver, which needs so many layers to build up to an even finish. The whole thing is overcoated with Halfords clear laquer, though again I'm not as happy with it as with the surprisingly resilient Humbrol satin varnish spray I've used in the past - it just doesn't feel as nice, and I have my doubts over its longevity, it feels slightly soft under the fingernails.

Having put it through the chrono, it shoots a fairly consistent 27m/s with Waffles (my standard). It also responds well to single and burst firing, and the pusher returns to the stop position very reliably. Video to demo rate of fire:

In total I only bought two components for this build - a Tamiya connectors and the red kill switch which isolates the battery - everything else (wiring, paint, filler, etc) was all leftover bits from other projects - so considering the blaster was free and it's essentially a spare parts build I'm pretty happy with it Smile

Sum cost of entire blaster: £5.58 (I asked for 15 quid for doing the whole thing inc parts)

Testing out the worker breech kit, fps is way lower than my artifact kit. Darts are amazingly accurate though!
