So I'm going to do the same with this as with FDT...

I'm going to add in bits cos there's lots going on!

Firstly, thanks again to the bishop of the Farsley chapel for letting us use their building!

We had around 40 players in our family event, so a good number! We had decent games with a good level of competitiveness and a lovely atmosphere. Some of my colleagues from work came, as well as some familiar faces and many who were completely new!

I'm going to start off with some shoutouts. I will not get through them all in this typing session, so please carry on and add stuff to what I'm saying.

We had a visitor all the way from Canada! This intrepid Nerfer, Jack, is a regular at Thunderdome Nova Scotia (Canada) and apparently just finds Nerf events wherever he is in the world and goes to them! He's so committed that he's skiving off his high school graduation to go to NvZ (please correct me if I'm wrong on that!). He took time out of a visit to his relatives to join us for a day, so deserves a massive thank you and a slap on the back for being our furthest ever away GuNer (you know what I mean!) I think this is his YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk-hr6BRmUsD0PDof_lM-OA  Search for ThunderdomeNS on youtube if that link doesn't show up.

It looks like they've got a fun Nerfing community over there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsAhdx326uo Here's a video showing how it started over there! He says that they have few but well attended events. He also said that he'd heard that Leeds was the place to be for Nerfing and driven up from Sheffield that day! Thinking about it, I'm guessing he must be an early riser in terms of getting his licence, but I'm sure it was all Kosher! Great fun chatting and we look forward to your next visit!

It was great to see Phil back, with his tank-like Rapid-strike based loadout, spraying foamy doom wherever he went!

[/i]

That was a great game, thanks guys

I've now got a great big sore patch on the side of me head from being shot in the corridor - got a feeling it may have been Dylan's Zeus!

Was another busy afternoon - thank you to all the familiar faces who came and made the event, and the new friends who joined us, even from Canada!

The inclusive games were a hoot - with some really long and drawn out ding dong battles in both Androids and defend the core. With some strong players on both teams and some dubious tactics Smile (that we might need to address!) neither teams could claim an out right victory. My sympathy to the Predator as the number of rocket launchers on hand made surviving too long a challenge - better luck next time.

And we did the whole day without doing a single round of HvZ which in retrospect seems like an over sight  Wink

As the day wore on and the weather got warmer we started a few rounds of 13+ games with some new rules to try and introduce some variation in the game play. I'll be the first to admit in the heat of a dart exchange down a corridor it became difficult to stick to agreed rules, and appreciate how things played out. I'll have another think about how best to apply these changes in future events.

Either way, with pretty much every player sporting some form of modified blaster the engagement distances moved out, and it become more and more challenging to breech the chapel. Mr Cranes and Jay's pump action Apollo's really really hit hard, Skuzzers desolator was as effective as ever, Phil's and Dazzles rapidstrikes are proper dart hoses, Dustybin's cross-stryfe was too accurate, in fact everything just rocked and wrecked each team!

We wrapped up with a round of TTT but by then i got the impression that everyone was pretty much exhausted! Me and Jolt certainly were - a frantic, fun and foamy afternoon all round Smile

I also was impressed with Mr. Crane's and friend Rivals the performance was excellent!!! It took the tri-hellcat performance to hold them back down the corridor lol, excellent fire fight was had whilst protecting the core.
On a slightly personnel note I was very in-impressed with some props which I got for one of the game plays myself and Old Man Nerf try to organize, but it's a work in progress !!!!!!!.

But on the whole the day I think was a great success and the kids behaved well, with very little in the way of firing of Nerf guns or messy between rounds.
I was a surprisingly warm day and the sweat was dripping off myself before I realized lol, wondered why the goggles kept steaming up.
And myself and TBR only realized we hadn't done a HvZ round as we were leaving lol.

I personally think the Nerf Rival range of blasters are really coming into their own now and are a blaster (with a few subtle tweaks) not to be underestimated, and coupled with the bounce/rebound factor which I saw a lot of players get caught out by lol.
All in all another very successful nerfing event in what can only be described as the capitol of Nerf.

Now off to search the net for a cheap Khaos (I blame you Mr. Crane !!!!).

Many new faces this time, I'm guessing this is going to be a regular thing as the profile of Nerf in the area should now be increasing due to the 'Trinity'. It appeared that there were fewer parents not joining in as well (actually less parents in general unless they were all hiding) which is good, still a few hold outs though.

The weather is getting warmer and I need to rethink clothing as I was way too warm, when my drop leg mag holder arrives I can ditch the belt and that will help with air flow!

A good afternoon of battling was had, no over long games which is what I like but I didn't get to play some of my personal favorite games, Meat Grinder (I may have been late for this one) and HvZ, this is not a critisism just a personal preference. The games played were great but I wish I hadn't captured the stage so quickly during one, tactically getting in quick worked but then I spent the game sat around Smile

The rivals worked great, I got hit by many a ball. At one point I got hit point blank in the finger and it hurt so much my brain didn't register what had happened and I was just looking at my finger dazed Smile Personally I'm in no rush to get any rivals, I don't like the fragmentation of the ammo type myself, I'll be sticking with darts for some time yet.

Just a thought, I've noticed at the end (of the over 13's games) that every month people are simply emptying there magazines into the dart pool as they are all loaded up but havn't used them all. Could this be taken advantage of for some kind of quick end game type? Maybe a deathmatch game with like ten lives or something? Everytime your hit you have to shout out number of lives remaining, last person wins?

I have a quick question regarding hits, do blaster hits count? I've always assumed that they don't but I got called out for not taking a hit on Sat so wanted to check.

Good feedback - keep it coming!

Missing HvZ was an oversight that we will rectify! It breaks with tradition not to play at least one round Smile

Some really good parental action - we have some great photos to share via facebook ('cos it's easier!) of various mums relishing the opportunity to dart their offspring.

We have a rival ball pool (and Mega's if anyone wants to use them) to cater for the divergence, but darts are going to be a staple for a long while yet. The only real advantage to the Zeus is it's a relatively easy job to get it performing so well, compared to triple hellcats in a rapidstrike.

Good call regarding blaster hits - we need to be clear in the briefing as to what does and doesn't count. I think we should say any hit on body or blaster is a tag, but i'd take input from other game organisers here so we start to get a standardised(ish) set of rules to play to.

Will see what we can do next month to make sure you don't finish the afternoon with loaded magazines Smile

I agree with TBR about the potential last game, plus keeping it only for the 13+ rounds will probably get the most honest game play too, many a kid took a tag to just ignore it and carry on in the earlier rounds but hey kids will be kids lol.

I agree with the Rival rounds I also don't think I will replace my dart blasters any time soon (love the performance of my triple hellcat rapidstrike too much) but I am contemplating a Khaos purchase to compliment my arsenal.
Already have 2 gun bags full of blasters, may need to get a 3rd lol.
