Post Stratobow  Reply with quote
We do love a bit of archery in our house and my son always loves to rock a bow at a Nerf war whenever he gets the chance so when we saw the Stratobow arrive on the scene a while ago we have been after one ever since. Took a while but they finally appeared on amazon early December so a got one and put it by for his birthday just before Christmas.

Anyway, its not bad out of the box. Good comfy big handle and a good bow action to it and on a 50 dart shoot over the Chrono it got an average of 67 fps with new elite darts which is not too bad. The front loading 15 dart clip makes it war practical as a primary and the decent performance makes it competitive with anyone running stock Elite gear. The clip is fixed in and cycles up through the barrels as you fire and when your out just slam it back down reload and your good to go again.

Shots can be fired off just as quick as any springier (not slam fire quick) and if you have a steady arm and know how to shoot a bow it does seem fairly accurate ( as it can be).

I did have a few problems with it skipping the odd dart and then the odd time two firing and falling about 5 feet away but my son has been using it around the house and had less firing issues, maybe its a technique thing more than mechanical?

Decided to try mod it. Opened it up to find an odd plunger tube about 4.5 inches long but only the top 1 inch is actually used as one side of the tube has a gap in it for a plastic arm that is connected to the floating plunger head and it actuates the clip feeding mech and priming indicator

The red circle area is the effective plunger tube area.

The stock spring is massive and actually quiet tough and I tried a couple of spring combos before eventually putting a spacer in the back of the floating plunger head and seating a BSUK 5kg Elite spring in there. New Chrono readings were 71 fps over a 50 dart shoot again so not a huge increase for what was a lot of work.

Any way I may revisit it and see what else I can add to it and it will be getting a paint job in the near future as well.

I made a wee (not so wee) video also detailing it all so please check it out if you wish.

Cheers.

It looks fun, easily the most war practical bow I've seen.

What a weird plunger tube though🤔

I watched your video on youtube and saw the spring upgrade didn't really have much effect, which is disappointment! I will still love to get my hands on one though!

Are you aware of anywhere in the UK that are selling these currently?

They're showing as back in stock on amazon 37.99 with prime. Argos have them listed but they seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Nerf bows are indeed generally very dependant on technique.
I'm definitely excited for this but that 40 price tag is a bit steep. I'll get it when it's on sale and I have a better understanding of how to bump up the power level.

Yes shame it's a bit pricey as it's a very nice blaster and I'm sure there is more potential in it than I got out of it.
