Got mine this morning, thank you, sir. Smile

Initial feedback is good construction and an excellent method but I doubt the scalability. I'll have a look at a few things this evening and see if I can come up with a better option. I'm tempted to produce kits for people to make dart manufacture easy. I'm working on this in a personal capacity in my spare time so this might take a while. Very Happy

Darts are done, FB yours are in the post. Could only do 8 for 1 as time consuming and I ran out of felt pads!
Total cost incl p&p is 2. Anyone else PM me, have 8 more ready.

Notes, two sizes to try, full length, cut to the size of a mega dart including the rubber tip and shorter to match just the length of the foam without the rubber tip. The shorter ones are more stable, I got 100ft out of the OMP1 at 6 pumps.

Hey buddy got my darts today I was well excited to try them out.
Ok so I load them up and wtf the won't chamber I think the barrel is tapered slightly and with them being a touch bigger and solid they just won't fit, I considered cutting them a bit shorter but the fit is so tight I'm not sure they will leave the barrel, I'll cut one down later and get back to you by the way I still need to pay you.

@oldnoob

Hi, I to also received them and I to also need to pay you. Laughing

Mine don't fit either but to see what was going on exactly I stripped it again,

Sad They just wont fit the chamber, I used my trusty digital calliper again and the plunger dart chamber thing which the darts are pushed into is an interference fit, they don't fit the clip for that matter either as they are to tight for the clip and the spring cant put enough force on them to locate to the top of the clip.

YHPM by the way.

Chris

It was worth a try. Fear not, I will not charge you! I went by the sizes supplied by here, they are easy to cut shorter, I will keep looking at foam sizes. We have not seen the last of the mighty Vulcan round, it just needs to be put on a diet.
I assumed that Nerf would have their usual sloppy fit in the breech and I didn't want to spend 50 to check! What is needed is a lower density solid foam, like the stuff I got for my Venom darts. If anyone finds 19mm foam rod, send it to me and I will make another batch.
If you want to get use out of the darts you have, try them in 22 or 25mm tubing with a big air tank. Or make an OMP 1.

We may have a solution!

Found the wholesaler!

They do other foam too, could be interesting,.

The only darts that were to long were the ones with the thicker felt pad, the ones with the black felt pad were bang on, the main problem is the diameter.

Ok I decided to cut one of the darts in half I stuff it in the barrel as far as it would go fired and it barely made it out the end dropping about 4ft away, so I get my dremmel out on its highest speed with a drum sander and start gentle taking down the diameter  till I get a nice fit. Here we go again this time im able to push the dart all the way to the end of the barrel fired and well it went maybe 35ft.
It dropped pretty quick don't know if that's due to it being so short about 1.5inchs with a weighted tip ?
I have to say im pretty fed up with this blaster I think I may put a titan tank into it or see if I can commission home made internals  Crying or Very sad

Oukie, which type number were the ones that were the right length?
FB, sanding them will not give a very clean barrel fit, the tips were weighted for a 70mm minimum dart length. I am going to try and get a 19mm foam sample sent out to me. I will make some darts out of it to send out again.

Type 1a is the same exact overall length as the original Mega darts.

Just to confirm that is the long dart with the black felt pad? Give me the ideal overall length again then I can adjust the new blanks before I add tips. Also if anyone has a dead mega dart spare then post it to me for weighing and developing the next attempt.

Stumbled across this, I too have been smiting some MEGA darts. As far as these being a replacement for Hasbro factory darts, I don't think so. The solid body throws off center of mass, and our custom heads add too much weight in an attempt to counter this.

I used 3/4in foam backer rod, which for you metric wads that's about 19mm. I believe your currently using 20mm foam and it's too tight in a stock breech? Well, my 19mm foam is too tight as well; but with a little rack stretching I was able to get the foam thin enough to function in MEGA blasters. Performance was dismal, the long foam body and disproportional center of mass was greeted with sub-par performance.

I now use these darts in 3/4in Sch.80 PVC, which is great for scaling down "overpowered" blasters and the like.
