Zombie Hunters of Manchester 18th June

So..
The planning post on my behalf became a little neglected due tk school work and such forth.
Into the details.

Location: Wythenshawe Park
There is a car park by the farm and I suggest we meet there and work our way to a small corner of the huge park.

Time: 1-4
There is lots to do there if people want to be early and there is food etc

Rules:
The obvious abuse lot. None will be tolerated and ploice will be informed of any misconduct.
140fps limit and only public friendly paint jobs as we are in a pubkic place
Swereing limited, we all do it by accident occasionally.
No alcohol the obvious.
And be respectful to the environment and publications.

Game: the good old lot!
I will be bringing down flags hopefully so we can do that.
Zombie games will be the main attraction hence our name including BUZAN style games.

How to get there:
Google it. As simple as that

Notes: the police on 101 will be notified and so will the park
Darts are provided but we ask for a donation of £2 for the ones we loose.
Also some loner blasters are available but not to the extent of Grim up events.
Note again that  mandatory eye protection rulesmare in place.
Dustybin

I think I will be able to come, it will be dependant on if there is a dive weekend or something that I don't know about. If I come then I my dad will be participating and my mum might attend but might not join in.

There is still lots to do in the park theres a large historic house, farm, cafe and more
Dustybin

She watches sometimes, she might go to the cafe. Will the GuN lot be attending, if so then will be bringing their magical dart pool or will we have to supply the darts ourselves?
The Dark Kitten

I do hope the paddling pool of darts does come but before they confirm I would say bring your own as I am for now.
blindgeekuk

It's not quite a paddling pool at the moment, we seemed to come home this month with a lot less than we went with, so the ikea bag is looking quite depleted, and we've got chinese ones coming to restock back to a little over 2k.
old_man_nerf

Our perception of what a 'reduced supply of darts' looks like must be slightly warped as by my calculations that still leaves us with over 1000 in the bag!

Now we have a date negotiations can begin on attendance at the event.

I like the idea of a 'magical dart pool' which is a bit like the little porridge pot. Unfortunately our magic pool costs to refill so any thoughts on how attendees might contribute to this?

I say a  £2-£3 per person dart charge which will go directly to BlindGeek for darts.
I feel maybe more as in the outside wilderness you a 10x more likely to loose darts
blindgeekuk

I wish it was a magical refilling pool of darts, would make my life a lot easier! We're not as low as 1000, probably more around the 1500-1600 mark compared to the 2000 we should be at if there was no losses/casualties.

I'll be running a springer rather than bertha, because she's a bit of a dart hungry beast who is more than happy to go through 150 darts per round, and I personally can't be arsed looking around a park for that amount of yellow darts!

Game wise, HvZ, lockdown/freezetag, and volleybomb should work well in a park.

My attendance (and the magical pool of darts...) I reliant on on of the others being able to go.

EDIT: ah bugger, it's Otley carnival that day and i've got the kids. Scratch that, I can't come, but the magical pool will be handed over to one of the others the weekend before
Justajolt

I plan on attending! I'll confirm for certain tomorrow...

I'll do some magic dart dances to replenish our stock as well ^_^
The Dark Kitten

I have promises of numbers from Stretfalcon tactical has anyone seen him/her/it online?
Pluss I'll he grabbing a few mates into the mix depends on how many feel up to it.
I hope you all will to as we seem a little thin.
old_man_nerf

Quick observation. It's not a popularity contest. If even two people turn up you can still do something. Ideally you want more but you know how many of us turned up to the first grim up Nerf - try to treat the first event as a starting point to build on.
thephatmaster

I'd be up for this despite being a southerner (I lived in Manc for a few years).

I'll see if a few of my MCR based mates are interested. Who wouldn't be - everyone loves foam darts + zombies.
skuzzer18

Hi I'm new to the site and the hobby, ive been looking for some more local stuff for a long time but always struggled, ive done a few small events at my uni but its hard to generate a large enough group. I'd love to attend this event it sounds awesome.
Justajolt

Still on the 18th, right???? Just checking so I can make sure I attend ^_^
The Dark Kitten

Yep still hasn't changed.
I better get started on finding bus routes and emergency modding as im still lost on a primarily..
Or just buy charger for my lipos
Justajolt

Be great to have another Southerner, PhatMaster! I'm a southern originally too.

Welcome, Skuzzer! Be great to see you there ^_^

I think this is going to be ace!

[quote="old_man_nerf:28400" Ideally you want more but you know how many of us turned up to the first grim up Nerf - try to treat the first event as a starting point to build on.[/quote]

It looks like we'll have more than we think!
The Dark Kitten

Jolt!!! Your steeling my job!
Anyway I'll do a head count so correct me if I forgot to mention you or you wont be attending:
Me (The master of all kittens)
Jolt (The newly YouTube master)
OldMan (the scary mod man)
Seiryuu (the scary blaster man)
DustyBin(the only person to have integrated something practical)
ThePhatMaster(Ex-Manchester)
Skuzzer(which I know nothing about)
Ahhh! Not to forget DustyBins Dad.
Mr.Crane also and a +1

Thats 8 of us then. A good number, I may get 2 ofmmy freinds to come to add to the mix.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
Kitten
skuzzer18

hahaha what would you like to know

some of the Nerf society from my uni might come down but i wouldnt hold out too much hope
The Dark Kitten

8 is a good number it means 4 aside or whatever which makes good matches.
so if some of the society come then even better.
Justajolt

I agree. That'll be enough for a good time!
Dustybin

8 people is fine, if it is over 1 then it is enough for a war. Though it will be my first war with under 15 people because I have attended GuN 3 and 5, Davidov's Saturday Skirmish and Bristol Blast which have had numbers ranging from around 15-30.
blindgeekuk

You're getting towards being a seasoned war veteran Dustybin. You've certainly got more differing experiences to us!

With that numbe of players, try some golden gun style pistol rounds, adjust the zombies timers, say 3 second stun
Mr.Crane

Ooooh I'd be up for this if I can get a decent blaster running in time!

Hopefully should be myself and a +1
The Dark Kitten

Ill edit the player list then.
plus if you don't get a blaster ready im sure we can find something that you can use.
Mr.Crane

I've got a stampede on its way and parts to beef it up a bit so I'll have to see how that goes!

If not I'll just nip down to Argos and pick up an EAT to use for the day   Very Happy
thephatmaster

Are some "Mobstacles" any use to you? I've got some tarp, zip ties and rigid steel tent poles I was going to make some cubes (think beach windbreak folded in on itself), or pyramids (think roadsign) with.

Was due to put something together today, but it was hosing down rain Sad

If I'm coming up on the 18th by car I can bring them if I make any. If I'm going by train>bike>megabus>tram I don't think they'll fit (petrol is expensive unless there are a few of us!)

Should find out tomorrow.
The Dark Kitten

Mr.Crane wrote:

well I'm doing the exact same thing the weekend before unless I get a lipo charger but either way the EAT is probably the smarter option.
Mr.Crane

What connectors have you got on your batteries?

If you're desperate I've got a monster of a smart fast charger that can do 4 at once, I'm in warrington so not too far out should you want them charging

Alternatively if you're on deans connectors I can bring LiFe / LiPo / NiMh / NiCad of varying sizes
Razz
The Dark Kitten

Sadly im xt60 but hold where you are because ive been Pmed bu BGUK about the issue also
Plus whats a Mobsticle?
The Google threw up a Nerf haven war so I feel it must be a positive.
skuzzer18

what kind of gear are people going to be using? and what kind of blasters? i'm thinking ill just bring my demolisher than im running on IMR's and my strongarm thats got the final stage OMW kit in... this being my first actual event i'm just a little worried that im horribly under prepared
The Dark Kitten

Well I'll be using my 3s rhinoed stryfe with fancy 3d printed stuff (see modification amd paint jobs thread)
And maybe an EAT depends if igrab one at argos.
Secondary will be my blasterParts metal hammershot.
but ill be bringing my ice magnus as well as 7kg sidestrike and some other misc blasters.
All the blasters im using will be mounted on my BSUK stuff which is just the standard Holster small pouch and mag holder on my belt all drop legged other than the small pouch.

As its the first ZHOM it doesn't matter what you bring it's just whether you have a good time.
thephatmaster

I'm fully committed now - travel tickets have been paid for - see you guys there
The Dark Kitten

I have a few gamemodes planned but one requires shotguns and pistols.
Can people bring shotguns or do we not all have something similar. All I needs to be is something multishot with low ammo. If its a no then ill adapt it to fit.
thephatmaster

I'll be bringing a Roughcut and a Mav and can bring a second Roughcut if that helps
The Dark Kitten

The more we have the more it will help.
I'm going with survivors have shotguns and pistols but very limited ammo so they must hold out for time.
The zombies wouldn't have invulnerability but would have a short respwan timer.
Dustybin

I have a diatron with about 20 disks and I have a strongarm if you need more weapons.
skuzzer18

i havent got a shotgun type, it sounds cool though so if anyone could lend me one for that game that would be grand
The Dark Kitten

Dustybin wrote:

The more weapons the more interesting the games will be.
Although we don't have tables to store them on so we may have to be centred close to the carpark and a boot may need to be lent
skuzzer18

my car is definitely available for storage
Justajolt

I have a boot too, and shotgun types to lend ^_^
The Dark Kitten

Thats good then all we need to do now is find an area to play and to work out where to meet.
Therefore I am planning to go down there on the GuN weekend to find an area whixh I close to the car park out of everyone's way but still be suitable for play.

ill be taking photos of the car parks that we'll use and make a back up if they fill up.
Right now I'm inclined to say that we should meet at the Cafe or one car park as the cafe  allows up a central point but the carpark allows us use of both boots and a location to meet of but could be jeopardised by the parks filling up and leavimg some people confused.

ill do annother big update then,

EDIT : Any dietary requirements or preferences with snacks as I'm going to bake my whiskers of the same weekend and next week for the event.  So far ive got Gingerbread men/cats , biscuits and cupcakes.
BaylissLad

Hi guys, Im new to nerfing and i have never been to a Nerf war before, never mind with strangers. I would love to come but my parents (Im 14) may not allow me to due to you guys being strangers. They dont understand this sort of stuff plus im not at home at the moment so when im back tonight i will check how far a drive it is.

I have an EAT and Hammershot (Bare, nothing special) and not many Nerf bullets (about 20). Would anyone be able to lend a shotgun for that gamemode you mentioned if i am able to come?

One last thing: My parent (most likely dad) would want to stay with me due to, again, me being with strangers IF I CAN COME.

Thanks.
blindgeekuk

If your parents have major concerns, point them to this forum, and getthem to contact one of us - all members of the Grim Up Nerf team can help reduce any fears they may have, and OldNoob is a youth worker and has talked to parents about Nerf wars before.

As an under 16, you'd have to have an adult with you, Grim Up Nerf will be assisting at this event, and we simply wouldn't let you join in and would turn you away if that adult wasn't there.

As for shotguns, someone will sort you out, we're good like that Smile

And as for darts, leave those 20 at home, you don't want to lose one when you have so few, and the Grim Up Nerf magical refilling bag of darts (TM) will be at the event. There'll be a small donation for using the darts which will cover the ones that inevitably get lost, but we've invested heavily in darts so players don't have to.
BaylissLad

Alright, Ill speak to them and try to convince them especially since you guys are an actual group that organise the events properly right? And you REQUIRE under 16s to have an adult anyways so they should be able to come round. Thanks Wink

How much money is required so that i can use bullets? I might have imagined this or be getting confused with a different forum but is it like £1 or £2?

Oh and what gear do i need? I mean holsters and things would be cool to buy if i can find some for like under £15 for my hammershot but what else do you guys use

EDIT

Please don't double post. Edit your last one if you have new things to add. ON

OldNoob

This event has no dart rental details, I suggest you get some darts for your own use and initial them. HvZ is not heavy on darts, you can get by with 60-100 easily. I have seen people play with less than 30!
Buy either Koosh or Elite darts. You don't need a holster, put your spare blaster on a sling (any strap or bit of string will do) and you can even play with just one blaster.
Holsters here if you are really set on it. but it's a bit late to get one now. People make them out of duct tape and card too.
The rule about no children being able to play without an adult taking responsibility for them (not leaving them at the event then going off to do something else) is there for your protection.
Get your mum or dad a Strongarm and some darts and tell them they are playing. Explain it like this -"HvZ is really simple. If it has no blaster, it's probably a zombie, shoot it, then run off. Keep repeating this until all the zombies are stunned and you got away, or they eat you. Then you get to be a zombie and scare all the remaining players, then everyone eats cake, then we go home."

Source for last minute Koosh darts.

Britnerf works with game organisers to help ensure games are safe and set up well, we don't directly organise them nor do we take responsibility for them in any way. Grim Up Nerf is a regular game based in Bradford/Leeds area, run by Old Man Nerf and Blindgeek, they are helping the organiser of this event.
Justajolt

We're going to support with darts and loaners. By all means bring yours, but hopefully we'll have a dart pool to use.
OldNoob

Make sure your first post on this thread is properly updated with all the new into, like darts and loaners being available.
The Dark Kitten

Post updated.
If your parents want to talk to me they can email me with the link under(?) my name
Plus for some games I wont be using all my BSUK gear so i'll be happy to lend it out. As long as you bring a belt it can allbe aadjusted to fit you. Although cardboard and duct tape works very well and there are lots of tutorials on YouTube.
BaylissLad

Unfortunately i cannot come since 1hr 30 mins in the car then to spend 3 hrs then another 1 hr 30 mins WITHOUT traffic is too long for my Dad and trains are 2 and a half so have fun guys. Wish people would host some around Birmingham Sad
Dustybin

There is a hvz group in Birmingham that you could attend, they have a Facebook page if you can find it. Anyway I am located just south of Birmingham and I will still go because it is in my 2 and 3/4 drive limit with my dad (not including traffic).
BaylissLad

My Mom and Dad wouldnt drive me further than an hour away Id guess

Btw my Mom works in Bromsgrove haha
Lythy

Dustybin/BaylissLad - by the sound of things I'm not a million miles from you guys, so maybe we could try and organise something in the Redditch/Bromsgrove/Studley area. Bit off topic for here, but if you're interested we can start up a thread & see whether it's possible
Franksie

I'm in Telford, originally from Stourbridge so i can get over that way too
BaylissLad

Again, wrong place but yeh if someone would start one and see how many people would be interested and then someone could sort it out then that would be great. Just a thread to see how many people would be interested first Smile I can start it if you want?
Justajolt

Good job, guys!!! Get it happening!
Mr.Crane

As we're outdoors whats the call on FVJs?
The Dark Kitten

Mr.Crane wrote:

Well we have the endless(ish) pool of koosh so we shouldn't need it.
But if you want to bring them then sure. Then we get to know how safe they are
blindgeekuk

FVJ's are fine for plinking around the house, and 'safe' as long as you're wearing eye protection. If you are playing in public, DO NOT USE THEM
Justajolt

Donation and dart pool. Best way. No need for FVJs ^_^
Mr.Crane

Good good! Thought it was best to ask either way  Razz
thephatmaster

Anyone want to do a PM mobile no. swap?

I'm travelling quite far to attend (and relying on 5 vehicles to work/run on time to do that), so chances of lateness / getting lost are high.
skuzzer18

yeah i was thinking the same thing
The Dark Kitten

Would the phone just to notify us on how late you will be because if that is the case sure unless I've got the wrong end of the stick.
thephatmaster

That's right. If I'm delayed and miss you guys at the meeting point I'll give someone a bell to see where everyone is in the park.
BaylissLad

I'm so sad I can't come Sad Soooo faarrrrr

EDIT

Spelling and grammar are required on this forum. Please ensure your post is correct before posting. Fixed this one, won't fix the next one. ON

Justajolt

PM to do number swaps ^_^
EmperorSmudge

Hello, I am new to the forums and I am quit interested in going to the Nerf war on saturday, me and my cousin would both like to come but I am not sure if it is open to anyone who wants to come. We are 10 and 9 yrs. old  Very Happy
BaylissLad

Welcome EmporerSmudge!

You can both attend the event BUT a parent or guardian must be there with you at all times. Most events are like this unless it says otherwise. Some events may be over 18s only but that is rare.

As long as you show up at the right time, right place with a parent or guardian then you can fling all the foam you would like!

Hope this helps!

-Bay
The Dark Kitten

I'm actually going to sadly jump in on that and say sadly no.
This is because 1 you are a tad late into the subject as we have 2 days left,
Also because the safety guidelines given by Nerf are 8+, even though you are not we are using modified blaster which in my case will reach 100+fps which is a whole 40 above therefore i am making the call to say not this time. That being said Grim Up Nerf games would be perfect for you and they have one in only 3 or so weeks so I'd check them out.

I am sorry but i have to make calls like this for yours and everyone's safety.
EmperorSmudge

Sorry for being late I just found out about this.
Thanks Bay
I don't think I can go to Leeds
Me and my cousin will make our own Nerf war against each other
blindgeekuk

I think what Dark Kitten was trying to say there was:

Hi, EmperorSmudge, thanks for joining the BritNerf community. It's great that you and your cousin are into Nerf'ing. As a general rule, Nerf wars organised by the BritNerf community are open to all, regardless of age, gender, religion or disability, but we don't allow unaccompanied children at those events. If you are able to attend, WITH your parents, who we invite and encourage to join in (there will be spare blasters for them to use) then you are welcome to join us.

To Dark Kitten, you should have really been involved in the chat last night... we are an inclusive community and if younger kids want to attend with an adult, then that's a great way to grow the community. Point out to their dad's the benefits of modding, the awesome gear you can get etc. And if they do attend and you are concerned about the power of your blaster, either a) use a different one or b) shoot them somewhere which won't hurt as much‎

To EmperorSmudge, where in the uk are you? We might be able to put you in touch with other members of the community nearby. But Grim Up Nerf welcomes you to attend one of our games, we are just off th M62.
old_man_nerf

It would have been more appropriate to specify an age limit/fps limit in the original post.

If you are concerned about participants and the power of blasters how will this be managed with regard to members of the public who are being exposed to the same risk but with no forewarning?
The Dark Kitten

UPDATE:

The red circle is where i plan on us parking and therefore meeting.
On the right is where we'll play : far away from the public to avoid incidental hurt.
Probably we will due battle over the circle like area.
Dustybin

I have everything ready, I am about to set off. See you people later!
The Dark Kitten

As am I the weathers beautiful and I have just boarded the 43 bus into northernden .
I just picked myself up a sledgefire which jolt can review there.
Also I grabbed my gopro wity a headmount and a chestmount which I'll use to get footage for jolt.
Ill be there stupidly early but that gives me time to scout out a good spot to do battle.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Kitten

Edit: have you grabbed suncream because you'll need it!
Justajolt

See you there, guys! It's gonna be blast!!!
skuzzer18

Is anybody here yet?
Dustybin

We will be a bit late, we are getting food at the courtyard thing.
Mr.Crane

Thanks for today guys! Had a great time and hope to see you all again soon
