Possible Nerf War in Bromsgrove area (roughly)

Hi guys,

This is a planning thread to see how many people would be interested in a Nerf War in places in or around Bromsgrove since that seems like a sweet spot for a few people. I will not be organizing the event I am merely trying to see how many people would be interested. There is a rather large park named Sanders Park in Bromsgrove which could be used (I don't know xD).

There would be HvZ (I'd make sure of it since I've always wanted to play HvZ) and more I'm sure Smile

Now, if anyone would want to organise this then let us know with a few details and for anyone that wants to participate leave a comment so any potential organisers will be able to see if it has much interest.

Thanks.
Dustybin

Sanders would not be the best because it is always really busy this time of year so it would be difficult to Nerf there. I will be up to this with my dad, and maybe my brother and mum because it is really close.

EDIT: Though I could scout it out next Saturday to see how busy to gauge how well a Nerf war would work there.
Lythy

Thanks for posting, I'm certainly game and I may be able to rope in a couple of "full size" players and a couple of pre-teens. I don't mind doing a bit of organising, but this would be my first war/game so you'd have to cut me a bit of slack (and prob gimme a bit of time!)

What about the recreation ground at Aston Fields?

Maybe, a lot of housing so would struggle to play without a lot of locals so I'm not sure. Seems good though. Maybe if we would hire a cheap venue and ask for a small fee? We'd have to make sure the amount of people attending would cover it though, any excess could either go to charity or koosh darts for future events.
BaylissLad

Blindgeek would you be interested in coming? If so then that is 4 already
blindgeekuk

It's probably a bit far for me, especially given I don't drive, but with the right date, some GuN'rs might turn up
BaylissLad

Okay Wink

Might not happen if we can't get an organiser haha but fingers crossed. I've never attended one before since they are never near me but hopefully this will be a first of many to come Smile

NERFERS: Any help with finding a venue/ area to play would be appreciated guys Razz We don't want it too busy and  if can hire a venue we could charge a small fee to players to pay for it so we have a private area Razz

Thanks
Lythy

As stated above, I don't mind trying my hand at organising. I don't get a lot of time at work to make phone calls, but I can email pretty much any time. I have a colleague who's daughter is a scout leader in Redditch, so I'm going to make a few enquiries about what they might have available. Any other ideas much appreciated.

Great!

Hopefully we will get a few more responses of people who are interested in the next couple of days

Scout halls and church halls are usually pretty cheap for a 3 hour 'kids' party. And anything above the size of a badminton court gives you space to run around, dodge under tables or behind chairs for example.

That redditch scout leader might be a good contact, they might have access to, or know of some woodland you could use.

Worst case scenario, you meet up at a public park, put names to faces, admire Dustybin's implementations, and discuss what you'd like to get out of a local Nerf event.

Here's to the Bromsgrove Blaster Bros'!

Yeh hopefully they can get us a field of some kind. Woodland would make our darts disappear xD

Dusty, Scout Sanders... I feel a Road Trip coming on...

What date are we thinking??
BaylissLad

I have no experience in this and i have no clue how fast Lythy can 'organise' but I'd like something like the 25th of June? 18th would affect ZHOM Wink
OldNoob

You guys need to give yourselves a chance, you won't get many players or a well organised event before July, you need time to marshal your forces and secure a venue. Patience young jedi.
BaylissLad

Well...We just have to see what Lythy can do then.
Dustybin

Me and my dad where thinking of an area at the back of sanders park where there usually isn't many people so it would be easier there. The only problem is that the area is very flat so we would need some cardboard boxes for cover. I will not be scouting in the Saturday because that is GuN so I will scout it on the Sunday.
BaylissLad

Copy that, Good work.
Lythy

Yeah I'd sort of got August onwards in mind - I admire (and am encouraged by) the enthusiasm though! Appreciate that will cut smack into holiday season, but I'm trying to be realistic in terms of how much time I'm going to have to chase venues etc. Work/wife/toddler tend to monopolise my days a bit Very Happy Back in the office on Wednesday, so will be getting the ball rolling then with the scouts contact.

Okee,

Hopefully we can get some more confirmations of people who are attending soon so we have an idea of how many will come.
OldNoob

If you are looking for park friendly cover might I recommend using beach windbreaks, many people have them in the shed, look out at car boots, recycling centres etc to build your stock. Faster and better than boxes, plus turn corners and are high vis.
BaylissLad

I have one, use it at the beach, that would be perfect actually good shout OldNoob Wink
OldNoob

I have never bought one, the three I have all came out of skips! You can also use broom handles bashed into the ground with dust sheets stretched between them, held in place by those big metal croc clips they use on market stalls or zip ties. Washing line stretched between trees with camo net or more dust sheets draped over also works well and is fast to put up.
The best places to play outside are areas with some stands of trees and clumps of bushes, with grass around and not much undergrowth.
Don't rule out another hall, you can then be protected from the weather.
BaylissLad

Great, thanks for the help!
Franksie

I'm in for this as long as the dates work - I have my daughters for 3 of the 4 weeks in August
Tanithlord

Im only in derby so a short jaunt foe me Smile
Franksie

As a "responsible adult" (lol) i'm happy to help out with the organising but i will need to take a supporting role, rather than a lead one due to my other commitments
Lythy

Thanks Franksie, that's very much appreciated. Managing expectations (if you'll pardon the expression) seems to be the biggest job at the moment lol
Justajolt

Just throwing this out there... late July? I'm happy to help with loaner blasters and things assuming it's on a date I can make it ^_^

We will just have to see what Lythy can throw together and then we will have a date. Just wondering if you have any spare things like stocks I could buy at the event? I would love a raider stock haha or a Worker one. Don't worry if you havnt haha just wondering.
Lythy

Bit of an update: I've started the ball rolling with Redditch scouts. Apparently the Headless Cross scout hut in Redditch has quite a lot of land attached to it, so fingers crossed.
BaylissLad

Great! Have you ANY idea of a POSSIBLE date?
Lythy

No, none, yet. With one or two exceptions I can't do Saturday's, though, so be prepared for it to possibly be a Sunday.
Lythy

Update: Redditch scouts buildings are a no go, unfortunately, they're in use at weekends. I've got some other ideas to work on, though
