Grim Up Nerf 3, Sat 12th Mar, 1-4pm, Tong, Bradford

Grim Up Nerf 3 - "Maybe it won't snow this time"

We're back again, even more darts (1400ish), even more loaners, and with organisers who now have a bit of experience and knowledge!

This is an open invite to you all for the third Grim Up Nerf event, in as many months. North, South, Northerer than North (Thatís you, FDT!)... all are invited.

Date and Time
Saturday 12th March 13:00 - 16:00

Location
The war will be located at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints chapel, at 21 Toftshaw Ln, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD4 6RB
If youíre travelling by public transport, we can pick you up from Bradford Interchange. Justajolt will be running a shuttle service between there and the venue at 12:30. Send him a PM for more info and to arrange pickup and deployment into the combat zone. Otherwise, the venue is on the 425 and 427 Arriva West Yorkshire bus route.

Cost
All attendees are invited to contribute the princely sum of £1 towards darts, materials etc so that we can keep doing it!
Please feel free to bring something to contribute to a communal snack bar, boxes of mini donuts or flapjack seem to go down a treat!
There is a small retail park a few minutes walk away, complete with KFC if more substantial food is required. Additionally, some of Bradfordís finest takeaways are also near by (Tong Fried Chicken! Finger lickiní  goodness to make the colonel himself jealous and at half the price!)

Loaner Blasters
There will be an extensive selection of blasters at the event, old and new, springer and flywheel. After signing in, you will be directed into the main hall where you will be helped to choose a suitable blaster. Flywheel blasters will be loaned to people who donate money and snacks on a first come first served basis

Games
We will be starting and finishing with our old faithfuls, Team Deathmatches to warm up, with HvZ rounds to finish. Expect some new games to fill the gap as time permits. Game rules will be explained before each round.

Safety and Behaviour
1 - We expect blasters to be in original or brightly coloured schemes, with an orange tip. I.e. nothing (weapon or clothing) to alarm the locals or other building users. We wonít be slowing down to assess performance so if youíre primary is modded and there is any chance it might be judged as over powered make sure you have a backup on hand.
2 - We will be providing all Koosh darts to be used at the event. If your blaster requires a different dart type, such as discs, mega darts, or missiles, you are expected to provide these yourself. No FVJ's are allowed.
3 - Eye protection is required and some will be provided, glasses users do so at their own risk.
4 - Anyone under 18 requires parental permission, and under 16's require a chaperone. Consider it an excuse to get your dad or mum playing.
5 - Between games you are expected to help recover and reload darts. Weapons must be holstered, slung, or placed on tables in an unloaded state between games.
6 - If it's not your's, don't touch it without asking
7 - Any abusive, threatening or rascist behaviour won't be tolerated.
8 - By attending, we consider this acceptance of the above rules, and your acknowledgement that Nerfing is not without risk, and that you are playing under your own will, and will not hold anyone else liable for any injuries that occur.
9 - And above all else, it's only a game, have fun, and donít be a silly billy!

Hmmmmmmm.... We had a smoke machine last time.... Could we get  http://www.electromarket.co.uk/light-effects/smoke-effects/snow-machines/beamz-s900-snow-machine-5l-fluid-900w just in case Smile

Seriously, we have thought about game dynamics, reviewed the improvements we can make, and are looking forward to the next event already.
Justajolt

Its gets better every time.

To be honest, it's getting to the point where it's worth people coming from further afield with almost 30 Nerfers last time!
Boff

Hmm... I won't be able to make it in person but I have plans. Nerfarious plans (see what I did there?) Razz

Is this the plot twist where bguk dramatically unzips his body mid game to reveal that he is actually a robot being controlled by a mini Boff pilot????

If that wasn't enough to entice you along we also have justajolt's cardboard rapid strike and east 17's rough cut holster on display, and maybe some more yet to be revealed surprises..... Smile
blindgeekuk

Damn, I thought the fact I am a robot was a well guarded secret... what gave it away? The plug socket on my arm, or the cables that run down the side of my neck?
The Dark Kitten

From brief looks on the calendar it seems likely i'll be making it.
I can't see why the refuse as it would be my 15th on the Monday before.
Boff

If BGUK is a controlled robot, he's not controlled by me. Trust me, you'd know - I have a very unique brand of swearing that I use when I'm playing. Very Happy
Justajolt

Nerfarious! We are... We are... We are... Nerfarious. He is... He is... He is... (Keeping the retro music theme up to go with East 17's shotgun holster!)
blindgeekuk

Why do I get the feeling I'm never going to live that roughtcut holster down... I should have gone with the bright elephants baby fabric by wife had!

Must say I agree with Justajolt's comment from the other day, with the large player base and us getting our act together with game ideas and marshalling, I'm actually at a point where I wouldn't feel that embarrassed if a more skilled Nerf warrior from down south/way up north came to visit
Boff

If it wasn't 8 weeks until GC1, 2 weeks until FE1 and being buried under a crap tonne of work, I'd be up for showing you all how it's done. Sadly, the Aussies are keeping me at work but they can't stop me from sending something a little special your way (hopefully in time for the event itself). Smile
FDT

GGGGAAAHHH!! I am running a party that day and am off to see Machinehead in Glasgow at night.

I'm now getting booked up for parties well in advance so I can't deal with this kind of short notice for events I'm afraid. I've just taken an enquiry for a party in November!

I know this will be a cracking event so have a great time - with some decent notice I should be able to organise a crew to come down sometime.
blindgeekuk

We're aiming for second saturday each month...

I've just been looking at campsites with rally fields, but nothing cam up in a central area with the kind of facilities i'd want...
FDT

Second Saturday - noted - cheers!
Davidov

:'( I will have to look at shuffling future Hendon skirmishes to make sure I at least have a chance of getting up Nerf to join in.
blindgeekuk

Well, that was a happy accident. I ordered some extra camo nets from China a while ago. The picture was o an arctic camo, the description said a woodland camo. They arrived today, and are mostly grey with a digital woodland camo effect. They look really good
The Dark Kitten

Thats handy and wil make great cover and add to the feel.
Do you know what the venue is like. (As in size and structure)
Justajolt

It has both size and structure Very Happy

Oooo. Really? I'd never guess! Laughing
Dustybin

I should be able to come with my dad even though it's just over 2 hours away, also please tell me if anyone will be using boomco darts so then I know if I have to mark my darts.
blindgeekuk

There is one other person with boomco blasters, though he generally doesn't use them.

We'd actually prefer it if you didn't use a boomco blaster, we haven't field tested them for safety in the venue, nor do we have spare darts. Instead we'd ask if you could use a Nerf brand blaster. If you don't have one, there will be loaner blasters available, and we provide all the Nerf compatible darts
old_man_nerf

Sounds like you need to let your dad know that we will expect him to stay and remain as your responsible adult during the game. Even better convince him to join in the fun. It's what all the grown ups (using the term loosely!) did last time. We wouldn't want him making a two hour journey and then realising he can't slope off for a child free break Smile
Justajolt

I agree! Get him to join in!

Less than two weeks to go!

Posts combined into one post ^_^ Happyjoy.
Justajolt

This was a double post. I have repented. Admin may delete.

EDIT

While your repentance is accepted and appreciated by the great Gods of the A&M team, I'm going to leave this here as an example to others. Smile - Boff

Must say, i'm finding it hard to grasp that it was only 2 weeks from our last event, and it's still two weeks until the next... I want to Nerf now!

Between this and stuff for world book day, i've got 25 packages coming with various bits and bobs for the event and for personal use. I'm hoping the ebay estimates for shipping from China are wrong like they were on the recent camo nets, if things arrive 2 to 3 days ahead of schedule, then Seiryuu, Justajolt and myself have some new ammo to play with.

The loaner box continues to grow, so much so, i'm not convinced I can get everything into a single box now. We've lots of revolver based weapons for the kids, and clip based springers and flywheels for grownups.

The second riot shield is ongoing, part of the problem i've got is our ground floor is too cold for the glue to set. This one is green, with a pirate fish skeleton pattern... (if anyone can source a red camp mat for cheap, let me know!)

IMR'S, rechargeable batteries, and cameras are all charged. I just need to clear off the camera memory cards. Probably going to add another staticly positioned camera onto the mix to get more angles for footage. Toying with a method of adding one of the action cams to a riot shield

The three of us are plotting away in the background, with various game types being discussed, as well as other ideas (anyone up for a weekend camping in the woods?). As well as refining our rig's.

I have a large green mat that we don't use still in the attic that if you want I can bring it down in two weeks.
Dustybin

I was not planning on using my boomco blaster, just if I don't finish my current Nerf gun in time. Also I have been trying to get my dad to join in, but it is not working... Yet.
old_man_nerf

I'm afraid we have to insist on under 18's having parental consent, and given we think/know you are under 16 you'll need him onsite at all times. No exemptions as we aren't dbs checked and therefore not legally in a position to accept the responsibility.

If he wants to sit in his car and read the paper that's up to him. We'll just play around him.....
Justajolt

Two riot shields and one human shield! I agree. I think he'd enjoy it. Even if he doesn't feel like he can run about, we can give him something with a high dart capacity and he can blast away at anything that comes within range!

EDIT:

Do we want the other grim up Nerfs on that calendar thread?

EDIT

Seriously, stop double posting. Edit your old post with new information or merge it into a new one and delete the old.

Thanks,

-Boff

blindgeekuk

Approx 1800 darts for this event:

And our new loyalty/membership cards:
Dustybin

I think my parents have decided that my mum is taking me so there is no possible way to get her to join in!

EDIT: Also what does it mean by upgrading Nerf gear?

EDIT No.2: It is now my dad again, they keep talking about who's taking me to the war so I think they have settled on my dad
old_man_nerf

Joining in or not, I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, no under 18's without a parent staying on site to be responsible for them. Hope your mum understands this before driving 2 hours to Bradford!
blindgeekuk

Dustybin wrote:

we'll let you know in 2 months when we figure out exactly how thats going to work ourselves! But for stock flywheel users, its likely to be an upgrade to IMR's. Other upgrades might be a stock of tac vests, or holsters, or drums for people to use...
Justajolt

Well done for getting a commitment to drive you up! Look forward to seeing you there!
Dustybin

Yes! My dad will join in. Also are foam swords allowed, that would be really fun?
blindgeekuk

Feel free to bring a foam sword, we'll assess its suitability on the day, and be aware that we don't have specific rules for them yet, as we've not had chance to try them
Dustybin

There is a first time for everything! I wonder how a sword would do in the HVZ matches, close range zombie slaying.
blindgeekuk

That was where I was planning on trying mine out - our zombies are on a 10 second freeze...
Justajolt

I've seen wars on youtube where some zombies have pool-noodles to make them like Halo flood-style creatures with long tentacle like arms... might have to consider that for next time!
Dustybin

Have I started a new idea for the HVZ matches in Grim Up Nerf?  Very Happy
The Dark Kitten

Sadly due to last minute arrangement i wont be able to make it tomorrow  Mad
             (or next one either)
My dad had work arrangments given to him yesterday that have left me at home with no way to make it and still have a legal guardian.

I'm still happy to edit films and such forth.
Have a great war and...

...Take loads of photos!

We enjoyed the HvZ we played at the last two grim up nerfs - it'll continue to be a regular feature with variations for a while yet. Everyone loves zombies don't they!?

I'm in two minds about melee. I can see how it would be appealing but we'd need to see what people were planning to use first before saying yay or nay.
Justajolt

Wouldn't want anyone loosing teeth after all...

We'll miss you, DK!
Seiryuu

Not sure my sword would fit in Justajolt's car :p.
blindgeekuk

The 3 co-conspirators have discussed the use of melee weapons at the event, and have decided that until we can safely assess their use, we are going to ban there use.
Dustybin

For Grim Up Nerf 4 I will have an EVA foam sword ready and a primary, for Grim Up Nerf 3 I will be using a loner and I might use a boomco stealth ambush. Save a stryfe for me! I know, preparing a month in advance, it's madness!
FDT

Have a great time guys - looking forward to vids!
OldNoob

I have never allowed melee at my games, mainly because all the things that aren't training boffers or LARP safe are awful and because I want to encourage Nerfing, not smacking people with foam weapons. If people want to do that there are plenty of other groups like LARP for that.
Indoors, with mixed ages and wildly varying temperaments it was too much of a liability.
Justajolt

Hey, dustybin! I know... It's infectious. There's a very grim, very northern arms race which started a couple of months ago which just keeps getting More grim. Looking forward to having you there!

Who reckons it might snow tomorrow?
old_man_nerf

What oldnoob said. Just too much of a risk.

And we don't have any boomco blasters and would prefer it if you choose from one of the many loan blasters we have available. Koosh darts only works for us.
Justajolt

I have a Rayven you can use. They're one of my personal favourites! I'm also looking forward to having a go with my new 4victories.
OldNoob

I forgot to add gave fun all of you, it's my regular game again tomorrow too. Big bag of blasters packed, repairs to various kids blasters done and batteries all charged!
Justajolt

Where's your regular game, by the way? Are you more northern or more southern than us?
OldNoob

In South Devon, I am on the master list. It's been going over 2 years.
blindgeekuk

Success! Again!

24ish people, full report tonight.
Seiryuu

Another great day of Nerfing. I'm sure I lost a ton of discs but I'd say they were well spent.
Thankyou very much to everyone involved.
old_man_nerf

I feel so broken now. Organising games is hard but satisfying.
