VENUE:
Church of JC of Latter Day Saints, Wigton Crescent, Bristol BS10 6DY

OldNoob

I am a solid probable for this. Will bring darts.
NewportNerfer113

Would be great to have you there.  New venue should provide some interesting options too Smile especially as now one will be that familiar with it, although the layout of the Mormon Chapels are very similar or so I'm told.
L11

New venue, new adventures! It's going to be an interesting one. Bring it on
Zenif

We will be there! Would be good to see the layout of this alternative venue!
UK Foam

You're welcome for the new venue Wink "GAME ORGANISER"

Can't wait! Organising BB7 as we speak!
Shady-daze

Hoping to finally make it to this Bristol game, quick few questions:
1) would anyone be willing/ is anyone passing Flinton Station and could offer a lift? they'll likely be 2 or 3 of us taking the train up and its a bit of a trek to the site especially with gear.

2) Is it only koosh darts that can be used as an entry fee? only I have a couple of packs of waffle tips on the way and I'm happy to throw one into the dart pool but I'd understand if you want to keep to a single dart type.
Davera

Woo-hoo. Fantastic event last weekend. I should be at this next one and I'll bring along a load of waffle tits!
OldNoob

Davera- Not sure the morons approve of "waffle tits.."
Always good to visit a new venue too. I just got my head around the last one.

Blame it on a typo. Maybe on the day I will shorten it to "Waffles" as there are usually quite a lot of kids at these events.

And I agree, a new venue will be a nice change. Although we still hadn't settled on decent respawn points at the regular location. This place looks a bit smaller so we are aiming to make use Of The outside if the weather allows it.
Treezy

After my first Blast this weekend Iím super keen for BB6! Iím already scheming away to make changes to my loadout. Though I should probably focus more on my cardio and some yoga in the intervening months: my legs are still stiff from all the running around and dart sweeps!

Also, Iíve managed to get some interest from a couple of folks local to me who would be up for some silliness, and who will probably have a couple of excited kids coming with them. Unfortunately they canít make BB6 in February, but theyíre interested in any events in March and beyond.
North257

Me and 2 others will be there Smile looking forward to it
Franksie

Maybe next time Sad
OldNoob

Just as a heads up- There's a possibility that I might have a JetX V2 blaster for people to use as a demonstrator at the event, I will provide limited darts for it, subject to approval of the moderator team, so it can be used in games. This is at the negotiating stage but if it arrrives in time I will bring it.
super gripper

I might make this one, will bring 100 yellow koosh darts
North257

Trying to plan the journey by train from Portsmouth. Anyone help on the nearest train station to the venue please?
UKNerfWar

Seems like a good time to pop my 2017 war cherry. I'll see if I can make it over.

Nearest station is parkway station or Filton abbeywood. There are buses that run from parkway past Southmead but you may need to walk some way especially it only goes via Southmead hospital.

I live nearby in Filton and could shuttle people and kit if needed from station.
NewportNerfer113

Cheers Zenif. I was just catching up as I've been off the forum over the weekend and so I'm glad someone was able to respond and help out North with his question.

Quote length shorter than reply etc, etc. Thanks. Smile -Boff

Boff

OK, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make this one, one way or the other. Apart from darts, arse kicking attitude and myself, do you need me to bring anything?
Welsh Mullet

Eyepro Boff, eyepro
Boff

I tend to find the roof of my mouth is more at risk than my eyes. Of course, I have my BOLLE tactical glasses and all my actual dart storage and firing equipment. Razz
L11

If it's not included as part of your 'Arse kicking attitude' . . . Bring your Game!!

On a serious note. I think we are okay, thanks for the offer.
NewportNerfer113

Serving as a bumpity bump, seeing as we are under a week away, and the thread has been a little quiet.  Doesn't help that I'm ill and have been hiding in a dark room for the last 2 weeks - I'm still not right, but well enough to type.

Also, we've discussed the possibility of using shields at our events. We are working on how best to incorporate them into our games, but if you want to bring any along, please feel free.  We will brief shield usage rules, depending on the game, on the day (or beforehand if we are organised enough).
OldNoob

I hate shields. They are largely gamebreaking inside.
blindgeekuk

Simplest shield rule: they block darts...

Better shield rules: no shield can fully cover your body, and must be able to be carried one handed. Shields are destroyed my demolisher missiles

Make sure they are foam edged, and see how many you get, if there's a lot, and it becomes an issue, form a proper rule for them
NewportNerfer113

Thanks ON and BGUK.  If the play space doesn't allow it, or it is obviously going to put others at a disadvantage then we won't be using them.  But we've been asked, and if there is a way to do it and make it fair and fun, we'd like to try.

I'm thinking a limit of 1 shield carrier per team for most games, just to add a different dynamic.
L11

Unfortunately I lost a bet today.... Wales vs England, 6 Nations game. Wales lost = me using a Deploy for 2 games at this war..... Oh my!! What have I done.

Edit - the bet was with Davera- and NN113 was also in on this bet and will have to join me in the Deploy usage

I agree if we use Shields we have 1 'tank' per team allowed to use a shield and mega darts break them. That way it's still fair and Shields won't change our games.
NewportNerfer113

Hey! The Deploy is a fine piece of Nerf engineering. If I tag you with it, you must be really bad at Nerf and should take a long hard look at your place in this world+
Treezy

Well I've been sticking IMRs in everything I can find, so I'm going to be flinging foam everywhere at BB6. Or burning motors out. Or both. I don't care, I'm excited!!!

L11: I feel your pain. I really thought we were on for the win today. Are you at least able to mod the Deploy? You could really soup it up and †have a cracking torch!

I kinda like the idea of shields, if they're nice and short; like 3ft tall max. That way it provides some form of mobile cover, but without giving that much body cover if you're carrying it in hand.
OldNoob

Proper room clearance, tactical momentum and shooting straight are better than shields at breaking deadlock.
Looks like my rocket launcher project might need revisiting then.
Boff

I've got my shield for use so will see about giving it a go on the field. I'll have to look at how to integrate it into my load out and get a RH holster since the damn thing sits on my left arm. :/ I need a new one...

Friendly note: LARP shields are bloody expensive (£120+) so if I growl if you get too close then you've been warned. Smile
UK Foam

Newport Nerfer and I were planning on doing  a few load out videos at Bb6, which will done either before, during the break or after. If you are interested come and find us on the day and we can shoot a quick video on your favourite Bristol Blast loading/gear. These will mainly be practice for Bb7 when we anticipate doing a few more!

I think Shields will be worth a try but I agree limiting it to one per team!

Think Bristol Blast 6 is going to be smaller than Bb7 but it's a good job because it's a smaller venue!
old_man_nerf

Ha. We thought the grim February weather would put people off coming, but far from it - we nearly maxed out again yesterday. Don't be surprised by how keen people are to fling foam!
L11

If we get our usual numbers, it's going to be an interesting one in terms of play style. CQB, fast paced games I think are on the cards.
Treezy

Happy to do a loadout video. I'll probably be running a few different ones dependent on the game types, and given I'm off to the surplus stores again today, who knows what I'll have with me next week!

I'm regards to shields, just saw Coop's recent CQB combo video where he had a shield made from a tote box lid and some gaffa tape. Looked fun to use without being too massive or obstructive.
Dustybin

I SHOULD be able to attend. I finally get to test my rig at something that isn't GuN of ZHoM and see how it fairs against Boff. Can we be expecting a CarrierII, or is he stuck making cookies or attempting to revive 3D printers?
Boff

It'll be just me, I'm afraid so you've not got too much to worry about. Razz Still pondering on how to integrate the shield properly...
UK Foam

It has been really nice to see how everyone's gear has evolved over the Bristol Blast games!

I have just emailed Vince as a reminder and all is still good to go ahead and we are now looking at April and May dates with both Vince and Darren Smile

I think we ought to alter the defend the Core game to the Hvz version we had intended to play at bb5.

If anyone has some loading video ideas send me a PM
Nerf_miners

Another 2 and a half going to BB6

Since BB5, the kids have gone Nerf crazy.  Inspired by all your equipment, my kids have consumed a years supply of gaffer tape. So, I can now confirm that my kids and I will be coming tomorrow.  I will even have a go myself, if I they lend me a Jolt.  So that's three more people paying hard cash for entry.  Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Boff

New hardware just arrived so now I have no excuse not to strip and clean both Stryfes. I guess it's going to be a long evening... Best get that 2S LiPo out from somewhere just in case my primary clocks 130FPS+.
Treezy

Apparently my Blastersmiths order has turned up today, because my other half recognised the parcel and opened it because it's got some stuff for them in it too. I just got a message proclaiming "I didn't want a spring, why did you order a spring?"

So looks like I'll be popping a 5KG spring into something later. I wonder if I can jam it into my Atlas behind the existing spring....
OldNoob

Stacked springs are a very bad idea, especially in anything with a geared prime. Put it in a proper blaster where it belongs.
My gear is stuffed in the bags and my lipos are charged!

OldNoob wrote:

I've already got an additional 2.5KG one stuffed in there, but the 5KG would probably be overkill. I'm pretty confident in the Atlas gearing because of the depth and thickness of teeth when compared to Elite gear trains. Will have to see how the longevity is for it; for science!

But you're right, the 5KG is going into the first blaster I bought, my Elite Stormtrooper Blaster; which was the intended original destination.

Treezy wrote:

Just as a warning. After half an hour so of usage in the second Hendon Nerf war, having put a stronger spring (I think it was a 7kg) in to mine had deformed the priming bar, so that the blaster no longer catches.
OldNoob

NG- 7kg is overkill in those. Really not built for it. You can fix the prime by adding a disc of 1.5mm-2mm plastic sheet to the head of the plunger or better still fill the void in the head and add a rubber (NOT FOAM) buffer.
I stand by stacked springs being crap, in everything. You are hardly getting any performance gain for a whole load of potential mechanical problems. Game blasters need to be reliable first, powerful second. It's no use shooting a few hard shots then breaking.
Mags now loaded, bag bulging!
Boff

OldNoob wrote:

This. Too often people's fun is ruined mid-game by a build that goes pear shaped. Build for resilience in all cases because you only get a few hours to have fun shooting foam at people. You can have the 'build the biggest, baddest blaster' fun on your own time. In field you're there to shoot people and play organised games.

I've just cleaned and balanced my primary Stryfe. I'm about to shove an Artefact cage and Worker wheels into a 2S Rhino side arm. I had to go with 2S because the 3S pack I wanted to use has changed specs without Hobby King warning me. On the bright side, it'll be sub-130. Very Happy

EDIT:

Side-arm is now fitted with an Artefact Red cage and Worker wheels. It's running 2S LiPo because I couldn't fit the 3S pack in there that I wanted. Stupid Hobby King for changing specs without informing anyone. On the bright side they're both chronographing at under 130FPS so will be system legal.

These are my girls. They will shoot you and you will get tagged. You have been warned. Wink

Elsewhere, I've gathered my mags and quite a few darts. I'm not sure I'm going to bother with the shield. It's bulky and I've not had time to integrate it into my load out properly. I've still got a holster to sew this evening so I'll likely give it a miss.

Looking forward to attending a war as me and shooting things. Please respect the line between business and personal. I'd ask that you don't ask me BSUK related questions unless a) I bring it up first b) you have my advance permission (you know who you are if you do).

A little bit psyched now... Very Happy
L11

Soon as I get in I'm getting my blasters prepped, Lipo's charged and the rest of the war equipment ready!

Really looking forward to this!
old_man_nerf

Have fun! Nerfing - still one of the best ways to spend a Saturday afternoon!
Boff

Yes, yes it is. Very Happy

Reloading drills done, batteries charged and all kit checked and stowed for tomorrow. I can't stress the importance of practice if you want smooth reloads and and easy ammo management.

Super pumped.
OldNoob

SHOW ME YOUR (Nerf) WAR FACE..,,,

See you guys tomorrow!
Treezy

Batteries charged, and mags labelled so I don't loose any this time. Oh, and single shot conversion on the Atlas completed! Not had a chance to proper test fire, other than "yup, I can fire 12 individual shots at the curtains from 10ft away". So tomorrow should be very interesting...

Rayven on Barricade motors, original flywheels, rewired on a bunch of IMRs will be my primary for most of the day. Atlas will be for shits and giggles. And intimidation factor!
Zenif

Right batteries all charged.. kids are packing their first (minor) modded blasters with locks removed, improved pushers and IMRs now I (Semi) trust them. Just be warned! Son also 'stole' a broken rayven I just fixed and upgraded. Should have kept that one hidden!

North257 messaged me to say he and two others can't make it so I won't be at the parkway station at 11am today to be clear. Unless I hear otherwise.

Looking forward to trying out my new rig. Hopefully no more reloading mid game or dropping mags! Nothing like trying it in action!
NewportNerfer113

So gutted I'm not well enough to be there today. Sounds like it's going to be awesome. Have a great day guys.
Boff

Pre-event breakfast of bacon sammich and coffee consumed. Pizza ordered for lunch (there's a Hut just around the corner!) now to start loading magazines. Very Happy
old_man_nerf

You're like a Nerf athlete in their prime making sure they are carbo loaded prior to an event.....
