Post GuN 12 Xmas Special report  Reply with quote
A select band gathered at the appropriate time and place (although some were later than others Smile ) and we had a merry old time blasting each other for the afternoon.

Some introductory rounds of meat grinder and kill confirmed were followed by humans v zombie elves with everyone getting a good run around.

We then jumped in to some epically long 'defend the core-istmas presents'. Blues just couldn't over come the devastating spray of darts from Mr cranes air powered blaster (sorry - still can't remember it's name!) and eventually conceded defeat. Reds had a better time of it when attacking and broke through for a convincing win.

Fortunately blues know how to hold a position for 'king of the chill' and despite snowballs raining down on them had the most time on the clock for both rounds.

As it was getting dark we all came inside and rounded things off with a couple of rounds of 'trouble in the grotto'. Santa had his work cut out eliminating the Grinches but managed to save Christmas for at least one round! Hurrah!

A fun day with everyone who turned up - your coming along is what makes grim up Nerf worth doing so thank you for ditching the Christmas shopping and coming nerfing instead Smile

And Mr Crane - I now have serious retaliator envy....

Yes, us reds were dominated during the 'king of the chill'.

Overall, I had a great time. I really do prefer smaller events with about 10-15 people over your regular huge 60-70 people games. The defend the core-istmas presents was very interesting, it pushed all of our ammo to the limits and we all just used pistols near the end, because we just ran out of mags.

Going back to the old venue felt like home, it was where I was for my first Nerf war. It had about the same number of people aswell! The car park area is great for HvZ because of the amount of room there to run from the zombies on immunity.

The snowballs were weird, they looked and felt like tribbles, but they didn't have enough range to hit anyone. They were definitely an interesting addition to the game. We did need to do a massive snowball fight at the end.

And then we had Justajolts method of collecting darts...

Seriously... puts the "wheeeee!" into dart sweep. Or something.

I really enjoyed that event. Lots of fun and quality Nerfing.

I think there's a real place for events like this amongst our larger events next year.

I used a Fire-Tek Sentry, unmodded, for almost the whole time I was there. Lots of fun, decent range unmodded and as accurately striking as any other blaster using Nerf darts! HOWEVER, I was reminded throughout the event of the superiority of a rapid firing flywheel in terms of area denial, suppressive fire and all of the other things they are good at compared to ANY springer... I'm talking about YOU, Dazzle!

Seriously, Dazzle's Rapidstrike is not only gorgeous, but also brutally effective! TBR's neon Stryfe was fantastic too!

I found myself having to reload less and enjoying just using three 18 mags in a W, enabling regular topping up, as opposed to a whole rig, with the trade-off obviously being less firepower at the close to mid ranges in which GuN action often takes place at.

The snowballs were fun!

I tried an all air blasters loadout as a less than archetypal Santa in trouble in the grotto: AS10, Magstrike and Secret Shot. All my elves died, killed by the two remaining Grinches after I arbitrarily shot one elf in the leg for low toy production levels last year and they turned out to be a Grinch anyway!

I'll feed the reps to the polar bears if they try anything...

I too also enjoyed GuN 12 !!!
The smaller venue lends itself very well towards the smaller group and the layout of the building and the fact that you can enter from any side, means from a holding point of view you need to keep your wits about you but to a encroaching point of veiw it can be very difficult also to advance if held well. (which i must admit I found out more than once when making several repeated advancements on the core-mas).
I did eventually after many attempts make it through the defences to the objective !!!! YAY but then a bit of confusion on the rules/game play meant I retreated again to the respourn point.
GuN 12 was the madain voyage as it were for my latest Rapidstrike project (3 Months in the making lol) and I must say it performed FANTASTICALLY which many adversarys found out numerous times.

Just a Jolt as santa in 'Trouble in ta Grotto' was erm interesting lol, but as menacing as he looked lost and all his Elves were killed off by the Grinches lol Hahahahahahaha Myself and TBR being the main culprits working together to wipe them all out.

I would like to wish all my fellow GuN'ers and very Happy CHristmas and Happy New Year it has been a pleasure to play alongside you or shoot you lol and bring on next year and another full year of GuN.

And lastly and not least Thank you to BGUK, Old Man Nerf, and Bad Santa (I mean Just A Jolt) for giving up your time and energy to run and organise GuN.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.

Thanks for the game guys - I had a great time!

I really enjoyed the different venue as it was a lot more dynamic to play, especially with the much smaller teams

I had forgotten to do anything with my video footage from this event so yesterday I chucked it at the GoPro Quik program that automatically makes a video for you and this is the result, better than the footage being left unused. There was a slight bit of tweaking to add an intro but thats it.
